I'm in the middle of giving away stories from Haunted: A Noir Series for free as I've relaunched the series with new Kindle covers. Today, I reached 1,000 books sold/downloaded through giveaways. A number that when I pushed publish on Haunt in April 0f 2021, I didn't even conceive of, I was hopeful for maybe 100. Okay, if you haven't seen the new covers yet, let's get to that first.
Haunt: Ten years ago, the son of Private Detective Sam Dawson, disappeared under mysterious, paranormal circumstances. After that day, the worst of his life, he vowed not to let what happened to him, happen to others. He vowed to investigate strange and abnormal cases. Cases of ghosts, demons, the things that go bump in the night, to reveal what the shadow is behind the curtain. Each step, each case, brings him one step closer to the truth of what happened to his son Thomas, to shake that feeling Sam has of being Haunted.
Howl: A creature is stalking the woods nearby Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. A creature who feels hunger and suffering. Something about this, draws the attention of Private Detective, Sam Dawson, who is committed to solving cases of the weird, abnormal and paranormal. Sam can feel this creature craving flesh and perceives it's pain. At night, in the woods, he can hear it's Howl.
Bite: Private Detective Sam Dawson and his gal, Sugar are on the way to meet Sugar's family for the Holidays. What started as a comfortable train ride in the snow from Harrisburg, PA to New York City, quickly turned into a nightmare. For someone or something has boarded the train with them. Something with two, sharp pointed teeth. Something that Bites.
Son: Eleven years ago, Private Detective Sam Dawson lost his son in a mysterious, paranormal incident. As a result, he vowed to investigate the dark and paranormal cases of the world. That included a case where a woman, Jean Romey, duped Sam and almost caused his death. Now, Jean is back and this time she has some news. She knows what happened to Sam's Son.
So I'll re-iterate here that I don't think there was anything wrong with the previous covers, just wanted the kindle versions to have a consistency of design. The previous covers are still available on paperback and in the season collection hardcover.
So I'm looking at these announcements like, for my Keen Readers (my version of Stephen King's Constant Reader) I can't remember which Stephen King book it was, but I know it was like at least 20 years before 11/22/63 came out that he floated the idea in one of his books about someone that could travel back in time to potentially stop the Kennedy assassination. So look at these announcements like that, things that are brewing.
All right previous announcement:
One of Us is a Killer: Jake Chambers is like any other high school aged boy. He likes sports. He likes cars. He loves movies. He's secretly in love with the girl who lives next door, Sera Johnson. The two of them, along with their friend Tom, used to all be best friends. Something happened as they reached high school age that caused Sera to pull back from their friend group. Something that confounded Jake. That is, until the Hat showed up on Jake's head. Unable to remove it, Jake's life is about to change significantly; he's about to find out what happened with Sera and find out just who is killing the citizens of Clearpark.
So this is close to being finished, its about 85% complete. My goal is to finish this in time for the 2023 Halloween season! I really love this book, it has nods to the first story I ever wanted to publish. I've since thrown that out to be replaced by this one. I think it's a lot of fun though.
Semi-New Announcements
Going with the new covers for Haunted, should be uploaded tomorrow is the new cover for...*drumroll*
Asylum: When investigative reporter Jocelyn ‘Sugar’ Morrison receives a mysterious tip about Harrisburg Mayoral candidate Robert Paulson, she springs into action. Along with her trusty sidekick and photographer Lilith, Jocelyn uncovers a mystery surrounding the political candidate and his odd history. Jocelyn’s journey leads her to a mysterious town in upstate New York called Green Lake and eventually to Woodhaven Asylum.
Finally a Semi-Annoucement, but if you've read Asylum, you've seen this. But the Sixth story in Haunted: A Noir Series will be titled...
Above (placeholder description): "Above" is an exhilarating paranormal adventure following Sam Dawson, a seasoned paranormal investigator, who unexpectedly finds himself hired by his arch-nemesis, the secretive Order, specifically the influential Romey family. Tasked with retrieving the powerful Amulet of Ga'dul, Sam embarks on a perilous journey alongside his fiancée, Jocelyn "Sugar" Morrison, his trusted paranormal partner Awan Kanoska, and Sugar's enigmatic friend Lilith Desjardin. Their quest takes them to an unearthed mountain, known as Lucifer's Finger, in the arctic wilderness. As they navigate treacherous terrain and face supernatural challenges, the group will confront their deepest fears and unravel the mysteries surrounding the ancient artifact, all while fighting against the malevolent forces of The Order. "Above" is a thrilling tale of adventure, danger, and the relentless pursuit of the unknown.
So Above is the project I'm working on right now, simultaneously while working on "Catch My Heart" for kindle vella. My goal is to have it ready by October at the latest. More details to follow...
Now for new announcements...
Haunted: A Noir Series - Season One Audiobook
So I had um, an experience trying to get a professional voice actor to record an audiobook for Season One of Haunted. It didn't go as well as I had hoped. I don't want to bag on the person, so this is all I'll say about that. So the one I'm working on now will be A.I. (artificial intelligence) generated. I know there's debates and opinions about A.I., even for writers. For me, A.I. has been extremely helpful as an indie author. The above description for Above is written by ChatGPT. In a time where I hit extreme writers block, to the point where I wasn't sure I wanted to continue writing, being able to chat out my ideas, see what works and what doesn't work, has been extremely helpful. So this will be done, I'm hoping by Holiday season 2023.
Lastly (though this isn't all that is brewing)...
And the Sea Began to Foam: "And the Sea Began to Foam" is a mesmerizing tale of forbidden love and perilous secrets. Mark, a recently divorced man, discovers an injured mermaid named Seraphine on a secluded beach. Drawn to her enchanting beauty and mysterious allure, Mark falls deeply in love with Seraphine, unaware of the dangers that lurk beneath her captivating exterior. As their bond grows stronger, they find themselves caught in a web of fate, torn between their love for each other and the risks it poses. With a backdrop of turbulent emotions and mythical elements, this star-crossed romance takes readers on a captivating journey where the depths of love are tested against the forces that threaten to tear them apart.
So that's all for now. And the Sea Began to Foam will be the thing I work on after all the above, plus Catch My Heart is finished. I'm stoked for all of this though and of course will continuously work on Haunted.
Hope you enjoyed the announcements, see you in the books!
